This session, which has been customised to fit with SEED’s research field/s and publication modalities, will introduce colleagues to bibliometrics and citation analysis tools to help raise awareness about the scope (and limitations) of these tools for assessing the academic impact of publications. Literacy in the in use and interpretation of these metrics is important as an input to the planning of publishing strategies, including tracking progress against the University’s target of field-specific increases in citation rates. The training materials will:
• Explain and compare the use of Scopus, the Web of Science and Google Scholar as citation tools.
• Explain and compares key mainstream metrics for citation impact
• Explain recent updates to the citation analysis options in the eScholar open access repository (green access), and how academics can use these resources for their publications.
